Human Origins-The Puppet Play Project Response
Note you will have 3 class periods to prepare your plays. See Resources-1
Answer the following questions on your wiki page.
1. What were your roles in the 'Creation of a Puppet Show' project? My role was the Narrator, the child, and the monsters.
2. What Problems did your group run into? We ran into problems that we didn't have a good background and it was plain. Also, when we had to present our shows again, we didn't have our puppets with us.
3. How did your group deal with these problems? We made a background from that spot, and it was pretty good.
4. Identify two similarities between all of the origin stories. 1. They all feature gods and goddesses. 2. They are all about humans being made.
5. Compare and Contrast any of the two origin stories presented in class (at least one paragraph).
The stories I am going to compare and contrast are the Chinese and the Greek. The difference between them are that for the greek one, Zeus thought creating humans were a lowly job for the gods, but in the Chinese, Nuwa thought that it was a valuable job to create the humans. Another difference is that the Titans gave each creation a gift, but Nuwa did not. A sameness is that both of them are about gods creating humans.

1. On which continent were Lucy and other hominids found? Lucy and the other Hominids were found in Africa.
2. What is the scientific name of Lucy? There scientific name is Australopithecus.
3. How long ago did Lucy live? Lucy lived about 3 million years ago.
4. What was an important step in human development? An important step was that they started walking on two legs.
5. Describe and explain how these hominids are different from each other. Use the charts about the hominids on page 30 to help you with the answer.
Make sure your answer is clear and detailed.
  • Australopithecus: They were seen in Africa, and their brain was one-third the size of normal humans.
  • Homo habilis: They used early stone tools, and their brain was half the size of normal humans.
  • Homo erectus: They learned how to handle fire, and they migrated out of Africa to Asia and Europe.
  • Homo sapiens: They migrated around the world, they are the same species with humans, and they have developed language.

  1. Why do historians need archaeologists and anthropologists to study prehistory? It is because historians would be able to study history better if archaeologists and anthropologists found more new things.
  2. What might have been one advantage of walking completely upright? The advantage of walking upright would've been that they would walk faster and be able to hunt better if they were able to walk upright.
  3. What kind of tools did people use during the Paleolithic Era? They used stone spears, and tools made out of rocks.
  4. Design a stone and wood tool you could use to help you with your chores. Describe your tool in a sentence or two. A tool that would be nice to help my chores is a wooden tong that would be perfect for cleaning my desk. It would wooden, with a paper end so it wouldn't damage my things.
  5. What is a hunter-gatherer? Hunter-gatherers are people who hunt and gather vegetables, nuts, eggs, etc to survive.
  6. In your opinion, what was the most important change brought by the development of language? In my opinion, the most important change brought by the development of language is that people started to communicate with each other, so there could be more developments in the world.
  7. Define the boldfaced words above. prehistory: history when the first humans appeared. Paleolithic Era: the first part of stone age. tools: a tool is any handheld that has been modified to help humans accomplish a task. hunter-gatherer: a hunter-gatherer is people who hunt animals or gather food to survive.

5. When we changed from gathering food to growing food, historians called it the Neolithic Revolution. Why do you think it's called a revolution? I think this is because a revolution means 'a big change', and this was a big change to the ancient people.
6. What is the definition for the word 'domestication'? It means to change plants or other animals to be more helpful to humans.
7. Using the map on p.41, which animals were domesticated in Asia? Horse and rice was first domesticated in Asia.
8. Using the map on p.41, where was corn first domesticated? Corn was first domesticated in North America.
9. If you were a farmer, how would your life be different than a hunter and gatherer. Give three ways your life would be different. One way is that if you were a HG (hunter-gatherer), you would be wandering to find food, but farmers don't wander around. The second thing is that HGs cannot settle in one place, but farmers settle down. The last thing is that HGs can't grow their own food, but farmers can.

1. What was the main difference between life in the Paleolithic period and life in the Neolithic period? The main difference was that in the Neolithic period, people started settling in one place.
2. How did people's lives change as they began to domesticate plants and animals during the Neolithic period? Now people don't have to gather plants to eat because they can produce their own food now.
3. What are some advantages and disadvantages of the changes in daily life that occurred as a result of the development of agriculture? An advantage is that they could settle in one place, but a disadvantage is that now people would not know how to gather food.

1. What are three things about daily life in Catal Huyuk that surprised you? Why did they surprise you? One thing that surprised me was that they gave engagement gifts that time. I thought they couldn't have thought of these things in that time, and I didn't know that they did marry that time. Another thing that surprised me was they did surgeries in that time. It surprised me because they didn't seem to be sure of what they were even doing, and it could've killed the patients, and it seems amazing that they figured out even the ways to do surgeries. The last thing that surprised me was that these people were actually the largest population together, but compared to the nowadays, it 's only the size of a village! It is amazing that the populations have increased so greatly.

The single most important thing I learned was the fact that we are Homo Sapiens. It was most important because it is important to know what kind of creatures ourselves are, and knowing about ourselves is very important.

What confused me the most was that how historians could know if people walked or not in the old Stone Ages, because there could really be no evidence if the people walked or not.

What surprised me the most was that the Homo Sapiens race have survived this long, and became us. It was surprising that they overthrew all the other clans and survived.
